P V Sindhu

Pusarla Venkata Sindhu (P V Sindhu) is an Indian badminton player. She has been a sporting icon of the 21st century because of her exceptional performance in the games she participates. The turning point of Sindhu’s career was her win against Li Xuerui in the 2012 china open series.

She started playing when she was eight. During her early life, she joined the badminton court of Indian railways and got trained by coach Mehboob Ali. After that, she joined Pullela Gopichands badminton academy. Soon Sindhu parted from the Gopichands academy and took training from a South Korean coach named Park-Tae-Sang. Currently, Sindhu has been trained by Kim-Ji-Hyun since 2019.

Sindhu’s first appearance at the international level was in 2009 at the sub-junior Asian badminton championship in Colombo.

This match was held in Basel, Switzerland. After achieving the gold, Sindhu became the first Indian woman to become a World badminton champion.

She also represented India at the 2016 summer Olympics. At that time, Sindhu became the first Indian woman to reach the Olympics final. She lost the final to Spain’s Carolina Marin and achieved a silver medal.

She participated again in the 2020 Olympics and achieved a bronze medal. She lost to He Bingjiao. Since then, she has been the first Indian woman to achieve two Olympic medals in badminton.

Sindhu has achieved a silver medal in the Asian games and two bronze medals in Asian Championships. She has achieved bronze, silver, and gold in the commonwealth games. She has also achieved a silver medal in the South Asian Games and gold in the commonwealth youth games. She has achieved a bronze and a gold in the Asian junior championships.


Sindhu has been employed with Bharat petroleum since July 2013 as an assistant sports manager in their Hyderabad office. She was also appointed as the first brand ambassador of Bridgestone India, whose primary business is the manufacturing of tires.
