If you are a Philippine student who is currently in Canada on a study permit, you may be wondering how to extend your stay. Fortunately, there are several ways that you can do this. In this blog post, we will discuss the different options available to you and provide some tips on how to extend your Canada study permit for Filipino students.
The best way to extend your stay in Canada as a student is to find a job. With a valid work permit, you can stay and work in Canada for up to three years after you graduate. To be eligible for a work permit, you must:
– Have graduated from a Canadian college or university, or
– Have completed at least two years of study in Canada towards a degree at a Canadian college or university, and
– Have a valid study permit when you apply for a work permit
You can find jobs in Canada through the government website, Job Bank. You can also search for jobs on websites like Indeed and LinkedIn.
As a foreign student, you need to have a Canada study permit in order to attend school in Canada. A study permit is not a visa. It is a document that gives you permission to stay in Canada for a specific reason – in this case, to study at a designated learning institution (DLI).
If you want to work while you study, you need to apply for a work permit. You can apply for a work permit when you submit your study permit application or after you arrive in Canada.
You don’t need a work permit to work on campus if you’re a full-time student at a designated institution.
There are some exceptions. For example, you need a work permit to work as:
a teaching or research assistant
an intern in a co-op program, even if it’s part of your studies
You can work off campus without a work permit under the following conditions:
you have a valid study permit, and
you’re a full-time student enrolled at: a designated learning institution, or an institution authorized by provincial statute to confer degrees
You can work up to 20 hours per week during regular academic sessions and full time during scheduled breaks (for example, winter and summer holidays, and spring break).
You need a Social Insurance Number (SIN) to work in Canada. If you don’t have one, apply for a SIN from Service Canada as soon as you arrive in Canada. You need a valid study permit to get a SIN.
You can apply for a SIN in person or online. Find out how to apply for a SIN.
If you want to stay in Canada after you graduate, find out if you’re eligible for the Post-Graduation Work Permit Program.
You may be eligible for this program even if you don’t complete your studies in Canada. For example, you may be able to apply if you:
complete an academic, professional or vocational training program that lasted at least 8 months
are a student with a disability and need extra time to finish your studies
finish your studies in less than 8 months, as long as your total studies in Canada were for at least 8 months
If you’re eligible, apply for a work permit within 90 days of getting written confirmation (for example, a transcript or an official letter) from your school that you’ve met the requirements of your program.
You can renew your study permit if you want to stay in Canada and continue studying. You must submit your application before your current permit expires.
If you are applying to renew your study permit from inside Canada, make sure you have a valid temporary status when you apply. If your status has expired, see Reinstate your status.
If you want to renew your study permit from outside Canada and don’t need a new temporary resident visa, you can apply online or on paper.
If you want to extend your stay in Canada as a student, you must apply for a permanent resident visa. You can do this by:
1. applying online
2. applying at a Canadian visa office
3. Applying from inside Canada (if you meet certain criteria)
You can extend your study permit as many times as you need to, as long as you remain a student in good standing and meet the requirements for doing so. If your program of study is longer than the standard length of time, you may need to apply for a new study permit. I hope you like this blog. Keep reading!
